October 10, 2025Spinfly for Carp
Spinfly is a hybrid technique that combines two seemingly distant approaches: spinning and fly fishing, in this case applied to carp fishing. It is a dynamic and visual technique, ideal for those seeking a more sporty and active experience than traditional carp fishing. It requires threads with excellent smoothness, invisibility and abrasion resistance to operate in complex environments without compromising bait presentation.
The commercial and the approach
The ideal environments for chasing carp in Spinfly are small and medium
size ditches, with little or no current. Even in veiled waters it is possible to observe the behavior of fish, taking advantage of the best seasonal conditions: from late winter to early spring, the prefrega period, and into autumn. In summer, on the other hand, patience and attention to moments of activity are needed, while in the middle of winter there is often a tendency to prefer rubbers.
Recommended setup - the heart of the technique
The real feather in the cap of this setting is the wire and rod.
Braid: Asso PE 3× Light Games, with very thin diameters (0.06-0.08 mm), combines lightness and strength. There is no need to reach great distances, but to get the bait precisely the spaces between branches and obstacles. The 3-end structure
ensures sensitivity and direct contact with the bait.
Finale (leader) in diameters 0.15 / 0.19 / 0.21 mm:
- Asso Superfluorocarbon: transparent, stiff to the point, and with superior strength-ideal for delicate presentations and catches up to 5 kg without compromise.
- Asso Invisible Clear: monofilament fluorocarbon designed primarily for leaders. It boasts high abrasion resistance, low elasticity, almost total invisibility (thanks to a refractive index that tends to zero in the first few meters underwater), excellent strength retention even in extreme conditions, and high density that maintains the position of the bait. It is a solid alternative when you want to maximize terminal stealth without sacrificing strength.
Rod: A tubolar 0.5-8 g model or a solid tip up to 10 g, with length
between 2.20 and 2.40 m, is the perfect choice. A medium-fast or fast one allows you to gently present flies and artificials, while at the same time tiring out strong carp even with thin line.

My name is Emanuele Donati and ultralight fishing has always been my way of experiencing the water. Over the years I have refined approaches and details, discovering that in Spinfly to carp the right line really makes a difference. In particular, Asso's selected materials and thicknesses make it easier and safer to tackle this type of fishing, offering precision and strength where you need it.
Practical Tips
For splicing braid and fluorocarbon, the Albright Special knot is a fast and effective ally, especially when the terminal needs to be re-spliced directly on the spot. The terminal length, between 1.5 and 2 meters, provides a mix of invisibility and protection against abrasion and sudden escape.
For tying the lure, two options remain irreplaceable: the simple and compact Palomar, which retains almost all the strength of the braid, and the Loop Knot (or Rapala Knot), which gives more freedom of movement to the artificial. The latter is especially useful for larger diameter fluorocarbon.
In fishing
Every launch must have a purpose-there is no room for randomness. Polarized goggles and slow movements become indispensable tools for observing and interpreting water signals. Carp are not always cooperative: insisting can only breed distrust. Better to read the moment and adapt. Eats can come either in the
bait-dropping phase or while dragging along the bottom
The combination of ultra-thin braid and soft, strong fluorocarbon is a formula that works even with carp accustomed to living in clear water. Ace's experience in wire manufacturing guarantees materials that turn a simple presentation into a catch to remember. Try it for yourself: often a well-balanced terminal, constructed with the right wire, is what marks the difference between a coat and an unforgettable day in contact with carp.
